A Diary of a Dress Inspired by a Portrait of Laudomia de' Medici

The patterns come from http://www.margospatterns.com.

I'll be using some 3.5 oz linen I got a long time ago at http://fabrics-store.com. I should mention that my favourite fabric store is http://www.phoenixtextiles.com. Unfortunately, they didn't have what I wanted this time.

I needed to order fabric for the undergarments, and even if I know that they were not necessarily white in Elizabethan times, I decided to order white linen. I got 7.1 oz linen at http://fabrics-store.com.

I also started tracing the patterns out on paper, so I don't destroy the originals.

I ordered silk samples from http://www.thaisilks.com and http://www.dharmatrading.com.

Pearls will come from http://www.firemountaingems.com. It's the only place where I've found pearls of the same kind in different sizes. They'll be glass pearls. I'm considering the garnet beads, links and pendants.

I ordered plastic whalebone in 7mm from http://www.farthingales.on.ca. I also ordered hoop wire from http://www.granndgarb.com.

I'll probably go with the 10mm habotai silk at Dharma, since it's less expensive. Thai Silks have heavier silk but it's much more expensive. I'll probably get the dye at Dharma too.

7.1oz linen arrived. It has more slubs than I would have liked, but since it's for underwear no one will see it. It's been washed in hot water, dried at hot setting and then ironed, twice. I've had bad experiences with shrinking linen before, I don't want to risk it anymore!

I've ordered 24 yards of noil silk in natural color from Thai Silks, it was 2,89$/yard. Even with exchange from US to CDN and shipping, it's a great deal! I'll be able to line everything that needs a lining, and I can even dye it the same color as the outside fabric.

I bought two bolts of habotai silk at Dharma Trading, with enough dye for the whole lot. I have much more fabric than what I need, but at 3,84USD a yard I'm sure I'll find a use for the remaining pieces.

I bought some fabric for the forepart at Fabricville. It's a nice white brocade. It's 70 cotton / 30 polyester. It's not perfect, but it'll do, until I find something I really love.
