The Idea

When the Silly Elizabethan contest came about for the first time, I didn't have time to participate, and I was still struggling to put my very first corset together. Besides, I didn't have a good enough idea to even want to participate. However, one day, this wonderful idea came into my mind, and refused to leave: A Candy Queen Elizabethan dress.

I started imagining bubble gum as pearls, marshmallows stringed to make a ruff, hard candy in place of jewels, piping made of licorice... I imagined a giant multicolored swirl to make the skirt, and waist tabs each a different color on the bodice... Will I make a chocolate-themed partlet and sleeves? Maybe not, since chocolate doesn't keep well over long periods, and I'd like to be able to keep the dress a long time.

I'll have to wait until the Silly Elizabethan contest happens again before I can start actually making this outfit, but I see no harm in getting the ideas rolling in my mind. Maybe if there is something for Halloween my underpinnings will be advanced enough that I can start thinking about an actual outfit!
